Meet baby Alisha Jannat. She is one year old and was screened for treatment of severe acute malnutrition a few weeks ago.

When baby Alisha Jannat was screened for treatment her body weight was 4 kg and Mid Upper Arm Circumference was 8 cm. Her condition was very very serious. If treatment had not been started in time, death could have occur.

Her treatment of antibiotic for seven days and lipid based Ready To Use Therapeutic Food started immediately.

This is baby Alisha three weeks later:

Baby Alisha Jannat after three weeks of treatment with RUTF.  Not only has she survived but she has shown excellent improvement. Two sachets pf RUTF per day, did the trick!

With treatment, in three weeks, the child has increased to 8.6 kg and her MUAC is now 9.5 cm. The child is considered fully recovered once her MUAC comes above 13 cm. Most probably, she will required  twelve weeks of treatment before she can make a full recovery.

Four weeks of treatment will be provided until the next follow up appointment.

Her father earns rs. 8000 per month ($44 CDN) working for Madrassa. To improve his condition, one of the trustees for the Trust For Malnutrition and Stunted Growth, who has a business in Korangi is going to offer him a job this week.

The need is great but we are making a positive change one life at a time.
