Introduction of Guest Speaker (John Teibert): Guest speaker today was Dean Norton (Public Affairs and Property Management Adviser for Ontario Power Generation). Dean is happily married for 25 years with three children — he happens to be John's neighbor, and John has always wanted to know exactly what Dean’s career encompasses.
Speakers Notes:
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) was formerly a branch of Ontario Hydro. OPG supplies two thirds of the power required in the province of Ontario through different sources. These sources are - nuclear, thermal, gas and hydroelectric as in the rerouting of water from the Falls after hours, to generate power. Dean spoke at length about the 3 Niagara tunnels - especially the new one completed under Niagara Falls. The construction challenges and the final success of the project was discussed in detail. An often undiscussed result of this rerouting is a reduction in the erosion of the falls. The erosion has been reduced to 1 foot per year versus the 3 feet per year before the rerouting.
Thanking the Speaker- Ed Telenko thanked Dean for a very informative presentation
Attendance report: Tom Schulz - 10 members, 4 make ups, one guest 50%
