GUESTS AND VISITING ROTARIANS 
Andrew Bowles introduced three guests: Prospective member Jean Holbert Leighton; Mike Paquet, our guest speaker; and Rob Reid from the Downtown Club.  

Don's Observation 103: The evolution of a relationship - it goes from something that is very lovey dovey to "Your going to be there tomorrow, right?"   

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS                                                                                                        Sergeant-at-arms Doug Foss fined George Fitzpatrick, Paul Massuet, Laetitia de Witt, and Bob McKay for various bike/wine tour infractions. He fined Julio Batres for eating breakfast in his car and slowing down Doug who was in the car behind him. Keith Shaver paid five happy dollars - he and Anne celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last week. Laetitia thanked Keith for the great anniversary party. Laetitia also had a great time at the Rotary meeting in Rochester where the RI President was the guest speaker. Don Hetherington paid a happy dollar so that he could announce that his office is moving to 94 Church Street. Jim and Lynn Hooper are proud new parents of a baby boy, Jackson. All are doing well. Greg McDonald's daughter must be doing well in school. She was the recipient of a $2,000 scholarship.   

ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                                                              N ext Board meeting is September 22, 2006, 7:30 a.m. at the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club.    

The District Governor is visiting our Club on October 30, 2006.

John Teibert, Club Treasurer, encouraged all members to get their dues paid as soon as possible. 

Winter Dreams VI - tickets are going fast. Those who have requested tickets should get their money in as soon as possible. Also, Cathy Henry announced that a $4,000 diamond pendant is being raffled. The draw will be the evening of the Gala. Raffle tickets are $10 each. See Cathy if you want to buy a ticket. Better yet, get tickets from Cathy or June Manning to sell to your friends. There are only 1,000 tickets to sell. The pendant has been donated, therefore, 100% of the proceeds will go to the Hospice Niagara Building fund. 

The Niagara Peninsula Children's Centre is hosting a dinner dance on September 29th. See Don Hetherington for more details.

Youth Exchange Weekend - the District is holding a Youth Exchange Weekend in St. Catharines the weekend of September 29, 30, and October 1st. If you are able to billet a student for the weekend, contact Laetitia.

Membership Development - President-Elect Don Hetherington drew names from the hat and the following individuals are challenged to propose a new member within the next six weeks: Julio Batres, Jason Pollock, Andrew Bowles, Keith Shaver, Norris Brown, and Greg McDonald. 

Greg McDonald announced that the next bingo is not Thanksgiving weekend as previously announced, but is Saturday, October 14th. He needs volunteers.

Debbie Garneau drew the two of Hearts.

GUEST SPEAKER
Dan Toppari introduced Mike Paquet. Mike is a consultant offering fundraising solutions to grassroots and community-based not-for-profit organizations. His company is called People First. He has been involved in fundraising for the last 13 years.
 
Mike is developing a workshop tentatively called "We Needed the Money Yesterday". As part of the seminar, Mike will be detailing the importance of developing a culture of giving within the organization that is doing the fundraising. If members of the organization are willing to contribute, they will be more enthusiastic when soliciting funds. Having this culture helps organizations meet their mission. It helps donors "up" in their giving. Not having this culture limits long-term fundraising efforts.
 
Mike answered a number of questions, including the importance of developing a case for fundraising.

ATTENDANCE
Julio Batres reported 23 members and four make-ups for 73 per cent attendance.

As there was no further business for the good of Rotary, President-elect Don adjourned the meeting at 1:30 p.m.
