GUESTS AND VISITING ROTARIANS
John Teibert introduced four visiting rotarians: Franco Olivieri, Rotary Club of Niagara-on-the-Lake; Jean Armitage, Rotary Club of St. Catharines a.m.; Ross McDonald, Rotary Club of Downtown St. Catharines; and Lisa Van Stratten, Rotary Club of Fort Erie.  


SERGEANT-AT-ARMS

Rob Welch, serving as Sergeant-at-Arms, gave the following fines to:
John Chotka... for putting Rob on the list to be the Sergeant-at-Arms;
Ian Forbes... for worrying at a recent golf tournament that the hole-in-one his company sponsored would be achieved;
Greg McDonald... for his manner of singing O Canada;
Ross Elliott... for having two grandchildren who, in Rob's opinion, are smarter than him; and
Dan Toppari...out of principle per John Chotka.

Rob Welch, serving as Sergeant-at-Arms, accepted the following Happy Dollars from:
Jean Armitage... for the Rotary Club of St. Catharines a.m. Wine Tasting and Charity Auction, October 21, 2005 at Hernder Estates Winery. Jean presented two tickets to President Bob and his wife;
John Teibert... for Jim Shannon's warm and friendly greeting of everyone today;
Bob McKay... for the golf trophy that John Teibert finally returned after seven years; and
John Klassen... for his wife who shot an 83 in golf.   

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Franco Olivieria of the Rotary Club of Niagara-on-the-Lake presented information on their club's fundraiser,"Building a Safer World," in support of Land Mine Eradication in Cambodia, which will be held at Navy Hall on Saturday, September 24th, 2005, 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $50.each, which includes appetizers and drinks. For tickets call 905-468-3494.

Jean Armitage of the Rotary Club of St. Catharines a.m. presented information on her club's "Wine Tasting and Charity Auction," to benefit the Children's Discovery Centre of Niagara, which will be held Friday, October 21, 2005 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Hernder Estates Wines in St. Catharines. Admission is $20. For tickets call 905-688-5011.     

Dan Toppari announced that his office will be holding its annual celebration in conjunction with the Wine Festival Parade on Saturday, September 24th, 2005. Dan extended an invitation to fellow rotarians to drop by and visit. 

Vice-President Matt Taylor announced that the club has been asked to host Rotary Exchange students Friday and Saturday night in conjunction with the Wine Festival. Any interested Rotarians, kindly contact Matt ASAP.  

President Bob McKay expressed his thanks to Ed Telenko for an excellent presentation on increasing our membership at the General Assembly held September 13, 2005, and for the contributions of the committee members. President Bob would like the club to increase its membership by 12 people this year--let's keep the momentum!

President Bob announced that there is a Group Study Exchange (GSE) Program for four weeks in April/May 2006. A Rotarian leader is needed who will act as the Ambassador for the Rotary district and guide the team through the agenda organized by the Swedish Rotarians. Canada Post is releasing a commemorative stamp for 50 years of polio research, prevention, and curing the disease.


District 7090 is organizing support for the Katrina disaster in New Orleans.

There is a Board meeting on September 23, 2005 at 7:30 a.m.

Jim Shannon advised that City Council will receive a presentation this evening on the Rotary Park. The Council meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. for anyone who is interested in watching it on cable or in being part of the gallery.

Greg McDonald advised that the next Bingo session is October 8, 2005. John Teibert and Greg McDonald are organizing the evening and need two more volunteers. Sixty-five hundred has been accumulated in pooled funds year-to-date.

BIRTHDAYS

EARLY LEAVERS
George Fitzpatrick, Don Beard, and Ross McDonald expressed regrets to the Speaker and to President Bob and took early leave.

GUEST SPEAKER
Rob Welch, Speaker Program Coordinator, introduced Ms Jean Armitage as Guest Speaker. Jean, who has lived in St. Catharines since 1988, has a Masters Degree in nursing administration and has worked in health care her entire career. Since retiring from hospital adminisitration at the Hotel Dieu, Jean has been teaching a distance education program for nurses who are completing their bachelor's degree. Jean is also an active community volunteer.Jean joined the Rotary Club of St. Catharines a.m. as a charter member in 1991 and served as Club President from 1995-1996. She has held many offices in the club and is currently Chair of the Membership Committee. At the District level, Jean served three years as Assistant Governor for Area Six--the four St. Catharines Rotary Clubs--and is currently Co-Chair of the Group Study Exchange (GSE) Committee.

ATTENDANCE REPORT
