Jim Howes introduced the following guests and visiting Rotarians: Art Wing, District Governor, and Jacqueline Wing, spouse; Bob Mahoney, Assistant District Governor; Della Heeney, guest of Dan Toppari; Lynda Baiano, proposed new member; Andrew Bowles, proposed new member; Kim Payne, proposed new member; Jim Hooper, proposed new member; Peter Snodgrass, proposed new member; Mike Terry, visiting Rotarian from Davisburg, Michigan; and Ross McDonald, Rotarian with the St. Catharines Downtown Club.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS

John Chotka, serving as Sergeant-at-Arms, fined:

- for missing his Sergeant-at-Arms duties in October and for singing so badly today;
Don Hetherington - for his smooth-shaven face;
All five new members - the bus for the hazing will arrive soon;
Laetitia de Witt - for getting Bob McKay's lunch and for being stressed out over our visit from the District Governor;
Ian Forbes - for soliciting new curling members;
Rich Cavers - for being down in hurricane country and for showing up;
John Teibert and Ross Elliott - for sitting with their homeys.

John Chotka, serving as Sergeant-at-Arms accepted Happy Dollars from:
Jacqueline Wing - for being at our Rotary club today (and note to Laetitia: when Jacklin first met Art, he scared her too);
Ron Kozub - he is hosting a wine tasting next Monday at the Wine Garden and has two tickets to the event;
Lynda Baiano - for becoming a Rotarian, which is very special to Lynda, and for having been appointed as an Administrator by Art Wing many years ago;
Peter Snodgrass - for joining our club and for heading off to New Zealand;
Andrew Bowles - for becoming a new member and for being a former ambassadorial scholar for District 7090;
Bob McKay - for his daughter, Cathy, who ranked 17th in the World Triathalon Championships in Hawaii;
Doug Foss - for today being Halloween.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

President Bob McKay announced the following:

District 7090 is hosting an Annual Foundation Dinner on November 18, 2005 at Salvatore's Italian Gardens Restaurant in Depew, New York. Keynote Speaker is Carolyn Jones, RI Director, and the first woman to be appointed as such in the 88 years of Foundation history. Interested Rotarians should contact Ron Kozub ASAP. 

Dr. Don Fraser (a 50-year Rotarian of the St. Catharines Downtown who was instrumental in the formation of the Lakeshore Club and the Rotary Club of St. Catharines South) will be honoured on November 11th, 2005 at Club Roma. Tickets are $45. Contact Joyce at 905-684-3500, ext. 34.

Other Announcements:

Ron Kozub advised that a letter was received from the Niagara College Foundation. The Foundation is hosting a Trivial Pursuit Night, Saturday, November 12, 2005, and is seeking our club's participation with an eight-member team. Interested players should contact Ron ASAP.

Ron also advised that the City of St. Catharines has formed a Community Vision Committee and has sent a letter to our club seeking our feedback by November 1, 2005. Please direct any comments to Ron via email ASAP.

There is a bingo session on Saturday, November 12th, 2005
. Three volunteers are needed from 5:45 p.m to 9:30 p.m. Refreshments and pizza afterward. Please contact Greg McDonald ASAP.

SPECIAL PENNANT PRESENTATION

Visiting Rotarian Mike Terry, who spoke of why he is proud to be a Rotarian, presented our club with a "Home of the Hill's pennant from Michigan. Bob McKay thanked Mike for his gesture of Rotarian friendship.    

EARLY LEAVERS

Brian Radford and Doug Foss expressed regret to our Guest Speaker, Mr. Art Wing, and to President Bob McKay and took early leave of the meeting.

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION

Bob McBride inducted new members into the Rotary Club of St. Catharines South. See related story for details. 

GUEST SPEAKER

District Governor Art Wing, accompanied by his wife Jacqueline and the Assistant District Governor Bob Mahoney, was the honourable guest speaker at this very special Rotary meeting. Please read the related story for more details.

ATTENDANCE REPORT

Norris Brown gave the attendance report. Five visiting Rotarians, eight guests (five of which are new members), and five make-ups for 90 per cent attendance - the highest attendance percentage this year!

As there was no further business for the good of Rotary, President Bob adjourned the meeting at 1:30 p.m.
