GUESTS AND VISITING ROTARIANS

Jim Howes introduced five guests: Ms Tara Cox, Program Manager of Distress Centre Niagara and our Guest Speaker; Mr. Andrew Bowles, Executive Assistant to the Regional Chair, Regional Municipality of Niagara and proposed new member, guest of Bob McBride; Mr. Ross McDonald, rotarian with the St. Catharines Downtown Club; Mr. Jim Hooper, agent, State Farm Insurance and proposed new member, guest of Dan Toppari; and Mr. Sandy Peters, rotarian with the St. Catharines Downtown Club.   

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS
 
Doug Foss, serving as Sergeant-at-Arms, fined:
Don Hetherington
for shaving his face (and wasting tax payers dollars as the posters at the Post Office now need to be changed!); and
All Poker Playing Rotarians for losing to Matt Taylor.

Doug Foss, serving as Sergeant-at-Arms, accepted Happy Dollars from:
Don Hetherington - he and his lovely wife, Anne, recently celebrated 22 years of wedded bliss;
Keith Shaver - he and his happy family recently enjoyed a trip to Disney world;
Jim Howes - the 31st Rotary Bon Spiel will be held on November 23rd, 2005 at the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club. Twenty-four teams are needed. $260 a rink, which includes an eye opener, lunch, and dinner. Contact Jim for further details;
John Klassen - he recently hosted a fun Poker night and would like to advise that Brian Radford can offer consultant services for a fee;
Brian Radford - he would like to support that fact;
John Teibert - Tickets to Hospice Niagara have been over sold; however, organizers are looking for two more couples to round out a table. Please contact John if you are interested.

ANNOUNCEMENTS     

President Bob announced the following:

The Presidential Advisory Committee met at Matt Taylor's house last Tuesday to look at Board nominations.

A Board of Directors meeting was held last Friday. That evening, representatives of our club attended the wine tasting and auction at Hernder Estates hosted by the St. Catharines AM Club.  

On October 31, 2005, Art Wing, the District Governor, will address our club.

Ed Telenko has been busy organizing recommendations for new members. We will have inductions next week.

Dr. Don Fraser, a rotarian of the St. Catharines Downtown Club for 50 years, will be honoured on November 11th, 2005 at Club Roma. Tickets are $45. Contact Joyce at 905-684-3500, ext. 34.

The Nominating Committee for a Director in Zone 22 recently certified that it has nominated Rotarian Monty J. Audenart, a member of the Rotary Club of Red Deer East, AB, Canada as a Director of RI for 2007-2009.

Other Announcements:

Greg McDonald announced that there is a bingo session on Saturday, November 12th, 2005. Three volunteers are needed from 5:45 p.m to 9:30 p.m. Refreshments and pizza afterward. Please contact Greg.  

Matt Taylor announced that the 97th Rotary International Convention  - "Bridging the World" - will be held June 11th to 14th, 2006 in Malmo, Sweden and in Copenhagen, Denmark. If any rotarian is interested in attending, please contact Matt.

BIRTHDAYS

Ross Elliott was recognized for his birthday. Many happy returns Ross!

EARLY LEAVERS

Rob Welch, Keith Shaver, Andrew Bowles, and Sandy Peters expressed regret to the President and Guest Speaker and took early leave of the meeting.

50/50 DRAW

Roseanne drew the winning ticket and happily accepted the gift of wine.
