Rotarian Doug Foss spoke of his long-standing service - 28 years - with the Boy Scouts of America at the July 25th, 2005 meeting of the Rotary Club of St. Catharines South.

Doug spoke of his long-standing service - 28 years - with the Boy Scouts of America. Doug was recently recognized for completing his "Vigil," which he had not previously completed due to a near-death experience during his career as a marine. The completion of the Vigil experience allowed Doug to officially receive the "Order of the Arrow," which he had previously received for compassionate reasons. Doug, being Doug, wanted to earn his stripes!  Doug also elaborated on other awards he has received, such as the "Silver Beaver Award," and the trophy he received for "Service to the World of Scouting."

Doug spoke of the challenges facing Scouts in Canada and in the U.S. Nationally, Doug has helped Scouts Canada by working on getting quality unit recognition. Doug is currently in charge of membership development and growth in Niagara.

Doug announced that, in 2007, Boy Scouts will celebrate its 100th anniversary. There will be a World Jamboree in England, which Doug hopes to attend.

Rob Welch thanked Doug for his presentation and expressed how delighted the club is to have Doug as a member.
