Technology and the pandemic have unfortunately made it easier for frauds and scams. According to Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, last year was a very costly year for Canada. Over 67,000 Canadian fell victim to frauds and scams at a cost of $380M!
This year the numbers are even more alarming, as of April 30, 2022, over 18,000 Canadians have reported falling victims to scams and frauds at a reported lost of $163.9M! Now those are only the reported cases. The actual numbers are even higher.
The club’s President-Elect, Julio Batres-Gavidia will be giving us some tips and tricks on how to protect yourself from falling victims to online and telephone scammers. He will focus on:

Every year, the Rotary Club of St. Catharines South awards Rotary Medals to a female and male graduating student from 5 local area high schools, who best exemplifies the quality of citenzenship, leadership and personify the rotary motto of "Service Above Self" while mirroring our "4 Way Test" in their scholastic, volunteer and day-to-day activities.
Each Medalist receives a wooden plaque with their medals displayed.
Their names are also displayed on a permanent plaque displayed at each school.
This year the award ceremony will take place at Johnny Rocco's St. Catharines. Tickets are limited and available at a first come, first serve basis, so please purchase your ticket early.
The luncheon will start promptly at NOON. |
